With the fast evolution of websites, blogs, search engines and social networking sites – these platforms have become reputation engines.Don’t be surprised if your potential clients or future employers use these sites to search for information about you or your business.
According to Wikipedia.Org, Online Reputation Management or ORM is:
The act of monitoring, addressing or mitigating SERPs (search engine result pages) or mentions in online media and Web sphere content. ORM primarily involves tracking what is written about a client on the Internet, then utilizing sophisticated online and offline techniques in promoting positive and neutral content, while at the same time pushing down those links the sponsor (in most cases business or individuals) may not want to show when their name is searched.
Rather than working to raise link results with a particular search term in order to (ostensibly) generate more commerce or page views, the goal of ORM is to push already highly-ranked negative posts off the results pages so that they are seen by fewer people, thus creating a more positive results environment for the sponsor of the effort.
ORM is the specialization in prevention and repair of online reputation threats, and has less to do with directly promoting businesses.
Online Reputation Management has a single most important target, that is to get rid of the negative content off of the first page of search engine results page. This is because, it is not easy to make negative results simply vanish.
And I’m not saying that this is impossible. There are tools, people expert in doing this and processes that helps Online Reputation Management a success.
ORM Techniques are related to Search Engine Optimization process. The technique includes onsite and offsite SEO, as well as online and offline promotion. This may also include some legal aspects if there are law violations that were compromised.
